From a varm 28 degrees in Singapore, we landed in -2 degrees at Copenhagen International airport. Looking at the sun rising in the horizon as the plane descended, we could barely contain our excitement and so begins our Eurotrip.
After clearing customs, we were met by my mentor, Nina, who came early to show us the way to our hotel. Having never experienced such weather, I was veh cold once we were in the open. We soon reached our accomdation- Adina Apartments, which was something like a hotel style apartment. It had everything from washing machine to dishwasher -.- . After leaving our luggage at the hotel, we proceeded to explore the surrounding area. We saw Den lille havfrue (The Little Mermaid), which was really small and insignificant but all the same its an icon of Denmark.
After dinner, we wanted to head out to catch the countdown. However, it was too cold and we ended up watching fireworks on the top floor. It was quite a sight cause the locals were setting off fireworks everywhere and lighting up the nightsky.
The next day we made our way to see Amelienborg Palace and the changing of the Queen's guards. Being unsure of our way, we asked a lady for assistence and she told us to follow the soldiers that would be marching past shortly. Sure enough, we could hear the sound of marching and music being played in the distance. As the soldiers marched to the Palace, passerbys followed them and when we reached the palace, there was already a big crowd there.
After an exciting morning, we went for lunch at Lagano's Pizza, where we got more than what we ordered thanks to my exchange buddy =)
The next day was the first time we saw snow
We also visited Christiania which is this squatter area in Copenhagen that has its own laws. It was interesting to see such an area and really puzzling why the authorities would be willing to accept the place. There are about 800+ residents in the Freetown and many of them are drug addicts as the sale of cannabis in the area is 'accepted' by authorities.
